When planning a Lake Louise proposal that you want photographed, it’s best to get your photographer involved in the early stages to help figure out the best time of day for lighting and to help figure out a spot where they’ll be inconspicuous while waiting for the moment to happen. It can be hard to figure out a good spot, plus usually we don’t tend to meet up before the proposal happens, so making sure everyone is in the right place can be tricky. I like to draw out a map with perspective photos for the locations so it’s easy to know where to stand and to be sure they are in the right spot. Phillip was planning a Lake Louise proposal for his girlfriend Paige. We decided on the little tree at Lake Louise because it was an easy landmark with a great view, plus there was room to step off the busy walkway away from other people. I was able to linger about 20 feet away and slowly move in to photograph the moment when it happened. I also like to do a trigger phrase, something to listen for to know when it’s about to happen when they are ready. Usually have them do a selfie in the spot and then he’ll ask his soon to be fiance to face out to the view for a photo. When they turn around, he’ll be ready with ring in hand! I love to capture proposals, there’s such a thrill watching the reactions and excitement!
