Banff Surprise Proposal & Engagement session

Banff, Engagements, Proposals

That moment when you decide to ask the person you love to marry you is monumental, so having that moment captured by a photographer is amazing, even more so when it’s a Banff surprise proposal! Nathan (and good friend Amanda) had told Jenna that they were heading to Banff to be models for the day with me. Nathan and I had met previously and had been planning out how it was all going to happen. We did a great job of pretending that we didn’t know each other when we first met that day. Photos started out at Surprise Corner because I love the landscape there and the light is just beautiful. It doesn’t hurt that the majestic Banff Springs Hotel is in the background either. We made a quick stop on Tunnel Mountain for some more photos before heading off to Lake Minnewanka. We carried on like it was just a regular couples shoot and then headed to Vermilion Lakes as we were nearing sunset to try to get that amazing view without any people around to watch. We finally were able to get the dock to ourselves and the magic happened for this Banff surprise proposal! Jenna said yes!! I can’t wait to photograph Jenna & Nathan’s wedding coming up in the fall near Edmonton! Here’s some of my favourite photos from their Banff surprise proposal! If you’re thinking you’d like to have your proposal photographed, definitely get in touch!

A Few Tips for Planning your own Surprise Proposal

Consider the location in terms of how crowded the area is. A spot that’s a little less traveled provides a much more intimate setting for the proposal & makes the moment far more private. Book yourselves a photo shoot for fun on your holiday then propose in the middle of the shoot. Your soon-to-be fiance(e) will be dressed for photos & will likely be far happier with the resulting images than if they were dressed for hiking, holding a phone, etc.
