Getting to photograph the moment that someone asks the person they love to marry them is such a special occasion and it really is an honour to be able to witness and capture the big moment, like for this Moraine Lake proposal. Kenny and I had been planning this shoot for a few months before it happened. He had planned a surprise trip to Lake Louise for Irene and once they arrived he told her he had also arranged a couples shoot while they were on vacation. I think vacation photos are the best kind of souvenir, they are memories that will last forever. All Irene knew was that we were going to Moraine Lake for their photo session. Moraine Lake is a stunning location but it can be a little tricky for a proposal, especially when trying to show off the epic landscape, because of how busy it is and trying to not have people stopping in from of the camera. Luck was on our side though, and this Moraine Lake proposal went off without a hitch! She said yes! Of course! Then we continued to take photos around Moraine Lake until the rain started falling heavily. We headed back to Lake Louise where it was crazy foggy to finish their session. If you are planning for a proposal in the Rocky Mountains, keep in mind that Moraine Lake is ridiculously busy, and while I try really hard to make it look like no one is there, that’s truly never the case. It is extremely difficult to capture a true surprise proposal here for a number of reasons. This is is one of the spots where I strongly recommend a “surprise” photo session… then propose in the middle of that so there is a better chance to set the scene, I’ll actually know who you are, you’ll be set up for the best photos & you’ll be dressed appropriately, not holding purses, cell phones, water bottles, etc.
