REAL ELOPEMENT: Icefields Parkway Elopement
The Couple: Weihsi & Hugo
The Season: Summer
The Location: Lake Louise, Peyto Lake, Bow Lake & the road on Icefields Parkway in Banff National Park
A Snippet About the Day: Weihsi & Hugo’s Icefields Parkway elopement actually started at Lake Louise for their ceremony. The ceremony was supposed to be in the meadow but the meadow was closed due to bear activity, so for safety sake, and to avoiding the chance of a fine for not heeding the warnings to stay out of the meadow, we shifted their ceremony lakeside (which I think looked even better!). It was a little trouble moving the table with the cake & traffic control was a little tricky since we were right by the walkway, but it all worked out in the end. After an emotional ceremony, the champagne was popped & the cake was cut (a big thank you to the best wedding commissioner, Patrick Smiley, for holding the umbrella for the newlyweds to cut the cake in the rain!) & enjoyed before we headed off to other locations for this Icefields Parkway elopement. Next stop: Peyto Lake. We left the rain behind in Lake Louise & got a great mix of sun & clouds at Peyto, making this spot even more spectacular. We hit the road, literally, & took photos in the middle of Highway 93N before finishing up photos from this Icefields Parkway elopement at Bow Lake. Even though it was summer it got chilly as the sun went down & we ended the night with a beautiful mountain sunset. I couldn’t have asked for a better end to this Icefields Parkway elopement!
A Few Tips for planning a Peyto Lake Intimate Wedding or Elopement: Currently Peyto Lake is closed for the 2020 season for much needed renovations to the parking lot & lower viewing area, but should be open again for spring 2021 so keep that in mind if you are thinking about an Icefields Parkway elopement! Parking is limited at Peyto Lake, so consider hiring a private shuttle to make getting around easier & avoid the whole parking debacle. Peyto Lake has no cell service, so make all plans clear to anyone attending beforehand, there is no way to get in contact once you are there. The best views are a bit of a hike from the upper parking lot, so pack some shoes that you can hike in! This is also an area that can still see fresh snow in June & it can start to snow again in September, so be prepared for any weather here when planning for your Icefields Parkway elopement or intimate wedding!
