REAL ELOPEMENT: Exploring Icefields Parkway
The Couple: Sophia & Craig
The Season: Summer
The Location: Peyto Lake, Bow Lake, Silverhorn Creek & the road on Icefields Parkway in Banff National Park
A Snippet About the Day: Sophia & Craig were staying at Num-Ti-Jah Lodge so I first met up with them there to start exploring Icefields Parkway for their wedding. Our first stop was the field of wildflowers & freezing creek on the side of the highway that I first discovered earlier in the month for Kim & Dan’s wedding day. I wanted to try this spot again before all of the wildflowers were gone, plus we were able to get the sun behind us so the lighting was nice. We wandered along the highway & passed by Peyto Lake, I wasn’t ready to take them there yet so we drove until I saw some beautiful light & it happened to be at Silverhorn Creek while we were exploring Icefields Parkway looking for something interesting. These two were adventurous so we hopped over the creek into the little island in the middle. Could I spend 2 hours shooting in this spot… no. But I could spend half an hour, which is what we did! When we have the option to wander & not be pinned to one particular location, we can hit a bunch of different spots for a shorter duration & get a lot of variety in photos. This is so much fun! We then turned back and headed to Peyto Lake where Sophia & Craig shared their intimate wedding vows with each other surrounded by the mountains. We wrapped up the evening at sunset by Bow Lake in the meadow. Then it was just a quick walk back to the Lodge for them to enjoy the rest of the night! If you like the idea of finding random spots, jumping out of the car for 15 minutes at a time, then off to finding the next spot, an elopement exploring Icefields Parkway might be the right choice for you!
