It was early June when I met up with Portia and Rainier for their summer Lake Louise elopement, June 1st in fact. Early June is one of favourite times in the mountains because it’s not as busy as mid summer and it still feels pretty serene, but also because daylight last forever and the Lake is newly thawed so the colour is amazing. They had their ceremony at the meadow by Chateau Lake Louise with the perfect mountain backdrop behind us under fabulous cloudy skies (my favourite! I’ll pick a cloudy day over a sunny day every single time). Portia had a beautiful white lily bouquet that was reminiscent of the bridal bouquet that her mom had years earlier. Portia & Rainier’s summer Lake Louise elopement was planned by Something New Weddings, so I knew it was going to be perfect! Following the intimate ceremony that was performed by Patrick Smiley, one of my favorite wedding officiants in the area, we wandered around the lake for portraits before hitting the road and attempting to get into Moraine Lake. The other awesome thing about June is that Moraine Lake isn’t as busy as it is in July and August!
We hiked The Rockpile at Moraine Lake but not before stopping to take photos on the back side on the rocks where there was still a little bit of snow. After hiking to the top we got to take in the amazing views that Moraine Lake is known for and even managed to get a few of the prime spots on the rocks without having to ask anyone to move or stare them down haha. On the way out we did a quick stop in the road to do a few twirling photos and just to do one little runaway couple photo which I just love and can’t do very often because the roads are so busy. Ending a wedding day getting hit by a car is not an awesome idea haha. These are some of my favorite photos from Portia and Rainier’s early summer Lake Louise elopement with their portraits at Moraine Lake.
If you’re thinking about getting married at Moraine Lake, consider staying at Moraine Lake Lodge the night before & after your wedding day. It makes getting access to the Lake so much easier! For the past few years, access to the road to the Lake has been monitored & severely restricted from 6:30 am – 6:30 pm (that does vary a little). When you are a registered guest at Moraine Lake Lodge, you are guaranteed access. Another perk is you also get canoe rentals included which makes for pretty awesome photos & you don’t have to pay an extra $100+ for it!! There’s lots of tips & tricks to help make getting married in the Canadian Rockies easier. I’d love to be your local wedding guide & I’d love to photograph your summer Lake Louise elopement or wedding at Moraine Lake or anywhere else you choose!
