Proposing is kind of a big deal. Chances are you’ve been thinking about it for a while, you’ve found your special someone, picked out the ring (or something significantly special for them, it doesn’t have to be a ring, you know). Now you’re trying to find a great location and want to make an amazing experience when you pop the question. You’ve been scrolling Instagram on the hunt checking out how your friends proposed, looking for proposal inspiration on Pinterest, lost on TikTok trying to plan the perfect way to propose… That’s so much pressure! Yes, proposing to the love of your life is special, but it doesn’t need to stress you out! If you’re thinking about proposing in Banff, I’m here to help! Let ENV Photography be your guide to crafting the perfect proposal in Banff and anywhere in the world (youknow we love to travel, right?!
If you’ve happened to book a trip to Banff National Park together, you’re pretty much going to be in the perfect place for an epic proposal no matter what happens. I mean.. you’re with the person you love the most in one of the most beautiful places in the world, the rest is easy. There’s two ways to plan proposing in Banff National Park. One is much easier than the other, both with a great outcome. If you’re going to plan this big proposal, don’t forget to have an awesome photographer there to capture it all (and since you’re here, you’ve already found one.. yes, that’s me, silly.. who did you think I was talking about??).. Ok, so you’ve gone ahead and booked me to photograph your proposal in Banff National Park, perfect. (Oh, by the way, I like to travel to new places too so if you aren’t headed to Banff National Park to propose, I can travel to you!) Now we figure out the best way to capture your proposal.
When Proposing in Banff National Park, one option is to book a photo session as a souvenir and a really fun experience while on your trip. You’re both aware you’ll be doing photos, you’ll be dressed for the occasion. Me hanging around won’t be a surprise. By the time you pop the question (15-30 minutes into your photoshoot) you’ll be comfortable together in front of the camera, this helps reduce your nervousness since we can control and set up the moment a lot easier than if we weren’t able to communicate like it is when you are being photographed “secretly” while proposing.
As alluded to above, the other option is to have a completely secret session to capture your proposal. This option takes a lot more planning in terms of getting you to the right place, setting up the right queues to know when we are both ready. There’s no setting you up in the right position, we can’t control who is walking by, its really left to chance. You’re also not likely to be as dressed up for the occasion as you might like. There is a lot more risk in something not going quite as planned in this situation, especially in locations that are busy and have no cell service (I’m looking at you Moraine Lake & Emerald Lake… and with an eye on Peyto Lake as well!).
There is no right way for proposing in Banff National Park. Both options work and I do both types of proposal sessions regularly. Let’s chat to see what is the best option for you! Location, season, time of day, road access, all these things impact the best way to capturing your proposal. There is a bit of work and planning to make this happen but we can do it together so it goes flawlessly! Let’s also chat about our Social Clips Video option to add as well!!!
