REAL WEDDING: Cascade Ponds Winter Wedding
The Couple: Brittani & Ryan
The Season: Winter, early February as the Arctic chill blew in for a month
The Location: Banff National Park – Cascade Ponds, Tunnel Mountain, Bow Falls & Juniper Hotel
A Snippet About the Day: After the crazy snowstorm the day before the weather changed and mindnumbing cold blew in. It went from just below freezing for the Emerald Lake wedding I shot on February 1st to -20C with windchills at -35C for Brittani & Ryan’s wedding day on February 2nd. We thought that was cold but the rest of the month stayed somewhere around -30C… just crazy! Originally the the plan for the ceremony was to be at the Mt Norquay Lookout but with the winds being what they were, standing exposed on the side of a mountain was going to be too cold & miserable. They took my advice & we moved the ceremony to Cascade Ponds where we got a little break from the wind & did manage to get glimpses of the mountains through the snow. Their Cascade Ponds winter wedding was beautiful! It really is a great spot for an elopement or intimate wedding ceremony. We retreated to the trees for family photos & a few couples photos to get out of the wind & took a break to warm up. We went back to Cascade Ponds & I had Brittani & Ryan climb on a picnic table for some of their photos so I could get a few photos with the mountains behind them before Cascade Mountain disappeared in the snow. We took a few more car rides with a short stop at Tunnel Mountain Reservoir (oh my goodness was it cold & windy there!), a short stopover at Bow Falls & we ended in the woods by The Juniper where it also kinda felt warm! In spite of the cold I think we all enjoyed Brittani & Ryan’s Cascade Ponds winter wedding in Banff!
