The Season: Mid October, the last day Moraine Lake was open for the year (note to travelers: the road to Moraine Lake closes at the end of the weekend of our Thanksgiving which changes every year… it also sometimes closes early due to weather).

A Snippet About the Day: It’s no secret that I love autumn & winter in the mountains & Moraine Lake in October is my favourite time to visit the area to catch the stunning blue lake with fresh snow. For Angelica & Juan’s engagement session, we were set to go to Emerald Lake but I convinced them to go to Moraine Lake so we could get that stunning blue ice as Moraine Lake had just frozen over! What a treat to see that incredible mountain lake under a fresh layer of ice with no snow on it! Moraine Lake in October can be tricky to climb with the freshly fallen snow…we slid all over the place climbing. I was pretty impressed that Angelica & Juan could climb so well in fancy clothes (get a look like Angelica’s for your engagement session with hundreds of awesome dresses at Lulus!). We got to shoot with the blue ice for only a little while as the snow started to fall, turning the lake white… but the rock pile with fresh snow & all those evergreen trees is pretty magical itself! We ended Angelica & Juan’s engagement session shooting back toward the valley with mountains all around & awesome low clouds! Isn’t Moraine Lake in October amazing? If you can visit then, do it!!
