There’s a lot of ways you can spend New Year’s Eve, but one of the most memorable surely is getting married like this New Year’s Eve Elopement! Diane & Paul traveled with their kids from the UK to get married at Emerald Lake Lodge in its full winter glory on New Year’s Eve in 2018. It was just the four of them for this cozy & intimate wedding with the kids making up the wedding party & both acted as witnesses. A truly family event bringing them all together as new family unit!
You’d expect a lot of places to be busy on New Year’s Eve, but Emerald Lake Lodge was quiet & peaceful on Diane & Paul’s wedding day. It was a cold day, somewhere around -15 C at the warmest point of the day. The group were dressed well for it (and quite stylishly too!) so we managed to stay outside for a good while through the ceremony & the portraits. In the winter, I like to break up the portrait session with a car ride to get a chance to warm up, so we did some photos at Emerald Lake before heading out to the Natural Bridge. Emerald Lake is super snowy, even early in the winter, so we were all up past our knees in it doing photos by the river… luckily Diane was dressed for it with tights & boots under her dress! It’s not always easy doing photos, you really do have to work for it! We wrapped up their New Year’s Eve Elopement with more photos back at the Lodge before I set them free to warm up & to celebrate the evening together as a family!
Officiant: Kim Chapman (this was her last wedding ever, quite an honour to photograph!)
