It’s always interesting in the mountains and that was truly the case for Jeanette & Luis’ Lake Louise summer elopement. If you look at the meadow where their ceremony took place, you’ll notice it was covered in dandelions. Just one big field of yellow. Pretty enticing, right? Well, it was also pretty enticing for Mama Grizzly and her bear cubs. About an hour before their ceremony was set to start the area was roped off as Mama Bear and her babies were snacking on a big ol’ bowl of dandelion salad as Park Rangers supervised. My were a little worried the ceremony wasn’t going to be able to take place in that meadow. Luckily the bears decided to wander off (probably for a nap after that big meal of flowers) and we were quickly able to do the ceremony while the Rangers watched the space behind us for the bears to reappear. I swear I looked over my should every 10 seconds during the ceremony to make sure there were no 4-legged wedding crashers! The ceremony was quick and we hustled off toward the populated areas of the shore around Lake Louise before heading to Moraine Lake for more portraits. Luckily m-d-June isn’t too insane and we were able to get to Moraine Lake around 6 pm without having to wait. We hiked the rockpile and got some great views from the top without too many people in the way (that’s a bit of a blessing!). We wandered back down and finished the day on the dock with the colorful canoes in the background. In spite of the bears crashing to crash the party, Jeanette and Luis’ Lake Louise summer elopement went off without a hitch!
If you’re thinking about getting married at Moraine Lake, consider staying at Moraine Lake Lodge the night before & after your wedding day. It makes getting access to the Lake so much easier! For the past few years, access to the road to the Lake has been monitored & severely restricted from 6:30 am – 6:30 pm (that does vary a little). Another perk is you also get canoe rentals included which makes for pretty awesome photos & you don’t have to pay an extra $100+ for it!!
