The Couple: Tina & Melvin
The Season: November – Autumn mixing with winter with rare frost flowers & green ice
The Location: Banff National Park
A Snippet About the Day: Tina & Melvin live nearby in Calgary & had wanted the mountains to be the backdrop for their engagement session (when you live somewhere close to this kind of natural beauty, you totally have to take advantage of it!). While it was a fairly warm day as far as it goes for November in the mountains, it was crazy windy. Tina had wanted to shoot at Bow Falls so we started there. The wind was bone chilling & intense so we spent a little time close to the Falls before tucking away in the cove nearby to get a bit of a break from the wind. On colder days I like to do more locations & jump around a little so you get a chance to warm up in between so after Bow Falls we took a quick drive up to Tunnel Mountain Reservoir to get sweeping mountain views. This spot is notorious for being windy even at the best of times (I’ve seen more than a few wedding backdrops & chairs go flying across the field in the wind) so we just stayed for a short. In early November the road between Surprise Corner & Buffalo Mountain Lodge is closed so we headed into the trees there to get away from the wind & it also gave us a chance to play in the road without worry of being run over (definitely a positive!). Next we hopped on over to Cascade Ponds to finish up their session where we discovered frost flowers & green ice… something that can be difficult to catch! Of course I was excited beyond words & even more excited when Tina & Melvin were willing to go out on the amazing green ice for a few photos (don’t worry, there were people ice skating on the pond earlier so it was safe!). The shots with the frost flowers & green ice are definitely my favourite because it something super unique to their engagement session, just for them!
