Lake Louise is an absolutely gorgeous place to get married if you want a mountain destination wedding within Canada. I’ve complied a list of Places to get Married in Lake Louise to make that task easier! It’s also an area that is incredibly popular with people travelling from all over the world for intimate weddings & elopements. Lake Louise truly is an amazing place to plan an elopement. I’m happy to help you find places to get married in Lake Louise! Lake Louise is a small town that sees a ton of tourist action throughout the year, even more so since Canada 150. You will see a little more wildlife in the Lake Louise area as compared to Banff – I actually caught a glimpse of a wolverine there once! When you’re in the mountains, an outdoor ceremony is the best way to go to be able to enjoy the beautiful mountain views, even in the winter! There are lots of great places to get married in Lake Louise, though the most well know is the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise with the gorgeous view that is recognized around the world!
Tips for Planning your Lake Louise wedding or elopement
- Consider early morning or later evening ceremony. In the summer, the sun roughly rises at 6 am and sets at 10 pm (depending on the month) so avoiding mid-day help you avoid the crowds. An added bonus is the water looks bluer when the sun isn’t directly overhead (especially with exposing for people in the photos) & you get a better chance of having still waters & great reflections!
- If you aren’t staying at the Fairmont, be prepared to take a shuttle to the lake because parking in the summer monsth especially is insane! Also if you’re lucky enough to get parking, be prepared to pay a silly amount of money for the privilege to park in the overpriced public parking. Yes, I’m bitter about $40+ to park here, can you tell?
- Consider Lake Louise in October to get a mix of Autumn & Winter. The last 2-3 weeks of October have the best chance to get this stunning combination of colours! NOTE: with the changing climate you can’t exactly predict when the snow will fall or stick, but it’s a rough idea.
- Keep in mind that winter lasts a long time in Lake Louise. If you don’t want a hint of snow & want to see the lake unfrozen, plan for after the first week of June until early October. Lake Louise freezes in November and doesn’t fully thaw until June!
- Wildfires can be a real problem. While the actual fire might not be in the area, there’s a good chance in July & August (Thanks to the irresponsibility of humans these fires can happen at any time, we’ve seen May and earlier under crazy smoke) that the mountains can be hidden under a thick blanket of smoke from neighbouring states & provinces. The smoke can be so thick that it totally obscures all mountain views. It doesn’t happen every year, but it is something to consider if you are planning a summer wedding.
- Bears love the meadow by the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. It’s not uncommon for the meadow to be closed at some point during the month of June due to grizzly bear activity. The bears just love to snack on the dandelions that grow there so be prepared to change ceremony locations if the meadow has been restricted. UPDATE: The meadow now has a bunch of tress planted so its not the same open space it once was. Its still possible to do small ceremonies though, but not a lot of space for guests.
- Lake Louise is a great location if you have accessibility issues. For the most part it’s easy to get around on the flat areas right beside the Lake & it’s only a slight slope to walk to get to the meadow! As far as amazing mountain views go, this a good spot if you don’t want to trek too far!
- The colour of the Lake changes. There’s many factors but if it’s super sunny, if it’s really windy, if it’s smokey, if its cloudy, if it’s the middle of the day, where things are in the melt cycle, these are all factors on how the water looks. It’s not an exact science. The water can range from milky white on a windy or smoky day to the stunning turquoise blue. There’s always variation in how it appears so don’t be disappointed if its not an intense turquoise all the time. As much as I want to control the colour of the water, impossible… but there are a few tricks to make the most of what you’ve got by planning for the best time of day, etc.
